In 1917 A.C. Powell, a farmer from New Mexico opens his own company: The Mountain Pass Canning Company. With a 7-hectare farm, he managed to become one of the first companies to produce canned tomatoes and beans.

In 1938 The Mountain Pass Canning Co. registers Old El Paso as a brand. It was the first brand to produce hot sauce outside of Mexico and which transformed it into a symbol through the Hot Taco Sauce.

In 1969 Old El Paso launches Meal Kits and begins to promote Mexican cuisine in America.

In 1994 General Mills buys the Old El Paso brand and brings tortilla formats to the market in the 90s.
