Iberian pork tenderloin, frozen product, Spain
The Iberian pig is a breed native to the Iberian Peninsula, more precisely from western Spain, and is one of the oldest in the world, also known as the Spanish black pig. Spain raises around three million Iberian pigs each year, making it the largest breeder of these animals in the world.
Spanish Iberian pigs are raised free-range on vast pastures. The quality Bellota Iberico meat comes from animals that spend the whole year in the so-called dehesas: cork oaks and holm oaks. There, the animals feed on acorns. This gives the meat a nutty flavor. Only the meat from animals that have obtained approximately 40% of their live weight from acorns and grasses found in pastures is called "Bellota". If only acorns are administered, the Bellota label cannot be used.
But it's not just the food that makes this delicacy so special! Because the animals can move freely, they develop strong muscles and lean, finely matured meat.
