Ingredients

  • 400 g of minced pork
  • 400 g of minced beef
  • 260 g of yellow onion
  • 300 ml of cow's milk
  • 6 cloves of garlic
  • 3 white rolls
  • 2 fresh chicken eggs
  • ½ teaspoon of ground caraway
  • 1 tablespoon of dried marjoram
  • 1 teaspoon of ground black pepper
  • 20 g of table salt
  • 800 g of potatoes for boiling
  • 4 slices of artisan bread

Instructions

  • 1
Preheat the oven to 160 °C. Pour water into a baking dish to a height of approximately 2 cm.
  • 2
Cut the rolls into 1 cm cubes, place them in a bowl, and pour milk over them to soften. Finely chop the onion, and peel and crush the garlic.
  • 3
In a large bowl, combine the minced meat (pork and beef), add the softened rolls, onion, garlic, eggs, and the rest of the spices (salt, pepper, caraway, marjoram). Mix everything very well until homogeneous.
  • 4
With wet hands, form the meat mixture into a compact loaf. Smooth it well, brush the surface with a little water, and place it in the prepared dish.
  • 5
Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for approximately one hour. During baking, occasionally baste the meatloaf with the juices left in the dish. After one hour, turn off the oven and leave the dish inside for another 15 minutes.
  • 6
Slice the meatloaf, pour the sauce from the dish over it, and serve with boiled potatoes or mashed potatoes. It is also delicious cold, served with bread and mustard.
